Four Foods on Friday – #74 (my week 6)

Here are my Four Foods on Friday #74 answers:

Valmg says she’s going on a diet of pureed foods soon and needs some answers…

1. What’s your favorite flavor of yogurt?
I like lots of different yogurts but here’s my top favorites.
Just plain Vanilla – this is my top fav because it’s so easy to cut up whatever fruit is handy, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, bananas and toss in. I also like granola cereals or grape nuts on it too.
Aside from the vanilla, I’ll take boysenberry, strawberry, cherry, mixed fruits, blackberry. My boys like orange creme.

As for types of yogurt, I usually just eat the regular kind.. but I used to really like the thick custard style.. but I never see it any more. The whipped is ok, too.

2. Got a recipe for a smoothie?
I’m not much of a recipe follower when it comes to smoothies.. but here’s a site with over a hundred different recipes for making smoothies ~ Fruit Smoothie Recipes by RC.

Typically, I’m a throw whatever I have in the blender and mix it up.. usually a handful of ice, a bit of juice and whatever fruits I’m adding. Sometimes the fruits end up being on the tart side, so a bit of sugar will get mixed in too.

I love raspberries but in smoothies you’ll be sucking up a bazillion seeds.. I kid you not.

3. Got a recipe for split pea soup?
Really and truly I only like peas fresh from the garden.. or the crunchy kind (as in, still fresh) in the pod still that you might toss into a salad or oriental dish. Of all the veggies I like, I just can’t do peas any other way. No split pea soup recipes to share.

4. What’s your favorite kind of pudding?
Chocolate would be my favorite. But I like banana pudding with bananas and vanilla wafers. Cheesecake pudding is good (use graham crackers, melted butter and some sugar for a crust if you want a pie). Rice pudding and Tapioca pudding are both yummy too!

Nothing Better

We’ve been busy this week getting ready for a baby shower. My oldest daughters first baby, my first grandbaby. What fun! We’ve been shopping for shower foods and accessories, baby goodies and even something for ourselves.

I bought a pair of pj’s at the new xxi – it’s a huge Forever 21.. and I noticed the tag on the pants had a little saying on them.. part of it started “There is nothing better than..” and I thought, wow! I can think of a few things for which there is nothing better..

There is nothing better than….
1. wearing comfy clothes.. oooh, give me pjs, or, if I must get dressed, a comfy pair of jeans.
2. hearing my kids say “I love you”.
3. just as good as I love you, is hearing your kids (teenagers no less) tell me I’m there best friend. Wow.. I can be a mom and a best friend.
4. taking a nap and having all the dogs climb into bed and snuggle around me… for the whole nap.
5. making a yummy smell good batch of soap with beautiful swirls.
6. a homemade dinner that everyone oohs and aahs over, eats so much they are stuffed an there is no leftovers. delish!
7. having quiet time.
8. reading a good book.
9. being married for 12 years and it seems like just yesterday you met… as in, it’s been a terrific 12 years.
10. getting some alone time with my hubby in the hottub. [wink]
11. going shopping with my girls.. usually a good time.
12. seeing people you having seen in a long time.. (particularly people you actually like!)
13. new babies.
14. looking in the mirror and having a good “hey, I look good today” day.
15. good hair days!
16. playing a fun game with my oldest son… we’ve been playing – oh, seriously fun. Very similar to we have a great time working / playing together.

Four Foods on Friday – #21, week 5

Yummy food questions! This is this weeks (#21) Four Foods on Friday meme.

#1. What’s your favorite fruit and how do you like to eat it?
I love fruit.. I can’t think of just one. I love fruit in smoothies, I love it plain… like homemade raspberry and blackberry syrup over pancakes, or banana crepes with orange sauce (must get recipe from mom). I love apple crisp (or see apple crisp pics) made with crunchy, tart granny smith apples… No.. sorry, can’t narrow this one down.

#2. What is the one spice in your kitchen you use more than any other?
This should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been reading my FFoF answers… salt.

#3. Pudding. Instant, stovetop or premade?
Instant.. I’m too lazy for stovetop.. and premade icks me out, especially the kind that doesn’t require refrigeration (eeewww!).

#4. Share a recipe using potatoes.
Me and the girls love tater tot casserole and it’s so easy to make.. not to mention versatile – you can sneak veggies in, or just keep as is. Here’s my Tatertot Casserole Recipe (or see tatertot casserole pics).

Heads or Tails – Green

Originally uploaded by madaise.

This weeks Heads or Tails theme is Heads, Green.

Heads means interpret the idea how you wish. Since this week is a green theme, I am choosing a picture of daffodils that I took last spring (late March). Green ivy, green stems.. the flowers are yellow I know.. but first, it’s all green.. fresh, lovely spring green.

Spring is here officially on the 21st of this month, St. Patrick’s Day is just next week… We’re coming up on a nice change of season and I’m (like many) getting a bit anxious for the outdoors.

Visit the Heads or Tails meme homepage to learn how it works… then visit Skittles Place because she IS the founder. 🙂

Four Foods on Friday – #20, wk 4

It’s Friday again.. and that means participating in Fun, Crafts and Recipes Four Foods on Friday Meme.

#1. What type of m&m is your favorite?
I prefer peanut m&m’s… and I don’t care what color at all. 🙂

#2. Peanut butter. Smooth, chunky, creamy. How do you like it?
I’ll eat creamy or chunky.. but I probably like chunky best.

#3. Do you usually drink out of glass, acrylic, Tupperware type or paper cups?
We have a compilation of everything (though I don’t do paper cups, I usually buy the plastic disposable, and sometimes wash a few times before throwing away)…. we probably have more glass jars (hey, that mayo jar would make a good drinking glass!) than anything.

#4. Share a chicken recipe.
*Love* my Chicken Zucchini Pasta Sauce… yummmy!

See you same time next week for four more fun food questions!

Four Foods on Friday – #19, wk 3

Friday again! This is my 3rd week doing the Four Foods Friday – I like it! Visit Fun, Crafts and Recipes to play too.. or to read other players (and don’t forget to comment here to let me know!). Here’s where to find this weeks Four Foods on Friday #19… my answers are below:

Here’s this weeks questions:

#1. Do you ever use scissors to cut any foods? Which? Raw or cooked?
Oh yes! I got my first pair of kitchen shears a few years ago and was so excited about all the things to use them on! I mainly use them to cut chicken (usually raw – then toss the scissors into hot soapy dishwater, then into the dishwasher).. but I have even used them to cut pizza!

#2. Popcorn. Homemade, microwave, bagged, hot, cold. How do you like it?
LOVE popcorn on the stove made in (I know, cringe) bacon grease… drizzled melted butter and lots of salt (remember my first FFoF? love butter & salt!)… I eat eat it fresh off the stove.. or I much on it the next day, after it’s been sitting on the counter all night getting stale.. I’m so bad!

#3. Sushi. Love it or hate it?
I have never had it. I don’t have any strong desire to even try it, though if it was offered, I would. Just wouldn’t go out of my way to get it.

#4. Share a dessert recipe.
How about a dessert topping? Or put it on your coffee or hot chocolate.. even on a homemade caramel frappuccino 😉 I started making this last fall and we love it… the boys eat it by the spoonful (maybe it is just a dessert!) and I love it on fruit too – even had it on some pancakes with homemade berry syrup… oh yummmy!

Homemade Whipped Cream
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Whip cream until thick and stiff.
Add sugar and vanilla.
Continue beating until it holds peaks.

Four Foods on Friday

A food meme from Fun, Crafts and Recipes.. visit her site and join the meme.

#1. What’s your favorite potato chip?

I’m not really picky about my pototo chips.. I usually get Mike Sells and Pringles – I think Mike Sells is a semi local chip.. I know they don’t have them in the SE.

#2. Do you use butter, margarine, both or neither?

I use both.. it depends on what I’m cooking. I also like to use oil.. and one of these days I plan to make my own margarine with real butter and olive oil. As an aside, I like Rice Bran oil to cook with too… very nice… right up there with OO. And I use both, depending on what I have on hand, for soapmaking.

#3. What’s your favorite mixed alcoholic (or virgin) drink?

I’m not much of a drinker, but I do like Seagrams wine coolers .. Cherry Fizz is my favorite.. but I like Wild Berries, Daiquiri and Passionate Kiss…

#4. What’s your favorite vegetable and how do you prepare it?

I like so many veggies it’s hard to say.. I like asparagus, chopped and cooked with lots of butter and salt… acorn squash baked with butter, salt and bacon cooked on top… zucchini and yellow squash chopped and steamed (to super softness) with butter and salt… ahhh.. see the butter and salt theme, huh.. lol.
